MEET THE ALDERMAN
Daniel La Spata has called Chicago home for the last 22 years, where he spent many of those years as a leader in the housing and community development space in the greater Logan Square area. He was inspired to run for Alderman after witnessing persistent anti-democratic and inequitable development processes which left too many residents out of the prosperity of the City's booming economy and housing market.
Ald. La Spata was elected to represent Chicago's 1st Ward in 2019, where he has used his leadership and organizing experience to fight for policies that work toward creating a more equitable and sustainable city. In his first term on City Council, Ald. La Spata championed the Chicago Rescue Plan, which ultimately served as the foundation for the City's Chicago Recovery Plan, and helped to shape many of the priorities in the 2022 City Budget.
Additionally, Ald. La Spata serves on several City Council Committees, and chairs the Committee on Pedestrian & Traffic Safety. He also serves on the Committee on Environmental Protection and Energy–through which he played an integral role as a member of City Council's decarbonization working group–and on the Committee on Housing and Real Estate, where he has consistently supported expanding the City's affordable and fair housing initiatives.
Ald. La Spata holds a bachelor's degree from North Park University, and is completing a masters degree in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. While working to complete his masters degree, Ald. La Spata took on fruitful professional experiences with the Chicago Rehab Network, Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, and Friends of the Parks.
Ald. La Spata remains committed to helping Chicago break down it's segregated past (and present), and weathering the storms of climate change through smart policy investments, and continued dialog and partnerships with neighbors, community organizations, and stakeholders. In the meantime, he finds balance through his passions for running, baking, and excellent music!
